Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and returns its results. Fairfield County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It is kept within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive basic technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on individual pages
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show which pages draw traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that activity into broader performance measures. A browser can reject cookies, though blocking them may change how parts of the site work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Fairfield County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to Fairfield County Sheriff offices, criminal courts, SLED, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not used to create a criminal file or consumer report. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Government access to public records follows the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code §§30-4-10 et seq.; SLED's criminal-record functions and search-fee authority arise under §§23-3-110 and 23-3-115. Those laws do not turn this private site into a records custodian.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Data entered there is governed by the selected partner's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. We do not control those terms. Review them before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Fairfield County offices, South Carolina courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Read those rules before providing personal details.
Some advertising providers use their own systems to measure activity across sites and select ads. Their tracking does not run under this policy.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Search partners receiving a query submitted to their tool
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, it will be removed after notice.

South Carolina law, including the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act, S.C. Code §§39-5-10 et seq., may provide rights or remedies depending on the facts. The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act governs requests to public bodies, not data held by this private site. Visitors may also:

- Ask what personal data is held about them
- Opt out of processing where that choice is available
- Request deletion of personal data
